World's Largest Dam Removal Project Announced
After more than six years of leading the fight, American Rivers and our partners reached a historic milestone last week that will result in the world's largest dam removal project. Following years of negotiations, PacifiCorp has agreed to remove four dams on the Klamath River as part of a broader effort to restore the river and revive its ailing salmon and steelhead runs, and aid fishing, tribal, and farming communities. Our Pick: Paddle-to-the-Sea
A classic children’s book, Paddle-to-the Sea is full of adventure, geography, and nature. It’s the tale of a Native American boy who longs to paddle from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean, but instead sends a toy wooden canoe on the journey. Before the canoe’s send-off, he inscribes the message for those who will encounter the toy “Put me back in the water. I am ‘Paddle-to-the-Sea.’” In this incredible story, the canoe endures a long journey filled with danger and excitement, reaching the Atlantic Ocean four years later.
