Ripple Effect: This Month's News and Victories

US Map 120pxCleanup Volunteers Haul 7 Tons of Trash out of the Tuckaseegee River
Nearly 500 people volunteered at this year’s 24th Annual Tuck River Cleanup in Cullowhee, NC. The volunteers, including our National River Cleanup Coordinator Josh Klein, pulled 14,000 pounds of trash from the river. Afterwards they enjoyed a BBQ with live music and a raffle. More

Toledo Rain Barrel Sale a Success
This month American Rivers held its first rain barrel distribution in Toledo, OH. Mayor Carty Finkbeiner was among the buyers, stating that rain barrels help keep stormwater out of the city’s aging sewer system. More

New York City Unveils Water Trail
With spring here, New York City is promoting public access to its waterways. The newly-created New York City Water Trail is comprised of small boat ramps around the five boroughs. More

House Passes Copper Salmon Wilderness Act
The Elk River is teeming with salmon and steelhead, and surrounded by a lush forest. Realizing the natural and economic value of the area, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Copper Salmon Wilderness Act, a bill that would establish the newest Wild and Scenic River and Wilderness in Oregon.
